Spectroscopic and Electrochemical Investigation on the Interaction between a Phenothiazinyl Drug and Nonionic Polymeric Surfactants in Ionic Liquid-Water Biphasic Systems

The temperature-dependent solution behavior of triblock copolymers (Pluronic P123 and F127) are studied in aqueous and a hydrophobic ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate [C4mim]PF6. The different solubilization behaviors of the surfactants in water and IL have been exploited to develop a switching system based on a hydrophobic drug in a biphasic system consisting of water and the IL. The binding affinities of the drug was regulated by the control on electrochemical potential monitored by cyclic voltametric and linear sweep voltametric techniques. Both thermal and electrochemical switching have been successfully demonstrated using pluronic micellar shuttle to show the prospect of a drug delivery system based on the supramolecular system.

Tuning the Swelling Behavior and Mechanical Properties of Poly(acrylic acid) Hydrogels for Incorporation of Cellulose Nanocrystal

The stimuli-responsive properties of cellulose nanocrystal incorporated Poly(acrylic acid) hydrogels was targeted to achieve. The fundamental studies of cellulose nanocrystal and Poly(acrylic acid) hydrogels are carried out. As a part of it, the swelling parameters, mechanical properties the swelling and mechanical behavior of PAA hydrogels were studied for feasibility of incorporation of nanocrystal. Analysis of their thermal stability and tensile properties were carried out using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA) and Universal Testing Machine (UTM), respectively. The study showed the conceivable properties of Poly(acrylic acid) to incorporate cellulose nanocrystal to utilize localized anisotropy of the composite as a pressure sensor.
