Celebration of “MIST Environment Fest – 2025”

This year, the Department of Environmental, Water Resources and Coastal Engineering of Military Institute of Science and Technology, organized a two-day MIST Environment Fest 2025 from 28th of June to 29th of June. The theme of this highly anticipated event was "Beat Plastic Pollution."

The event aimed to foster awareness among students, faculty, and the wider community about the devastating impacts of plastic waste on our ecosystems.

The event featured a range of activities, which were held on the 28th of June including Poster Presentation, GIS Case Competition, Buzzer Blitz Contest and Environmental Article Writing, all designed to foster a deeper understanding of pressing environmental issues and innovative solutions. This joint effort reflects the department's continued commitment to education, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. Students from multiple universities throughout Bangladesh actively participated in the events.

Lt General S M Kamrul Hassan, BSP, ndc, hdmc, psc, PhD, Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division, graced the event as the chief guest. In his remarks, he emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding the environment and called for swift action to combat plastic pollution, aligning closely with the theme of the festival.

Respected Comdt, MIST, Maj Gen Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc was the Chief Patron of the program. He highlighted the need to enhance public awareness and promote the use of plastic alternatives as essential steps in addressing environmental issues linked to the global climate crisis.

Prof. Dr. Md. Mafizur Rahman from the Civil Engineering Department of BUET delivered the keynote address and discussed international initiatives to reduce plastic pollution. He discussed a number of effective tactics in his presentation, such as implementing progressive government policies to promote long-term sustainability, adopting cutting-edge technologies, and enhancing corporate responsibility.

Insightful technical sessions exploring urgent environmental issues were also part of the program. Bangladesh's sanitation problems were brought to light by Dr. Abdullah Al-Muyeed of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), who emphasized the pressing need for better infrastructure and legislative support. In the meantime, Nayoka Martinez Bäckström from the Swedish Embassy encouraged attendees to actively participate in creating a resilient and sustainable future by discussing the significance of empowering youth leadership in the face of climate change and global uncertainties.
